Manilla
Manilla is a small town in New South Wales, Australia, located 45 kilometres from the regional city of Tamworth. Manilla is famous for its setting as fishing and paragliding area.
Manilla comes from the Gamilaraay language, and is said to mean meeting of the rivers.
Manilla was established in the 1850s at the junction of the Namoi River and the Manilla River. The population of Manilla is 2,033. It was formerly the centre of Manilla Shire Local Government Area, but this was amalgamated with Tamworth City Council and portions of Barraba & Nundle Shire Councils to form Tamworth Regional Council in 2004.
Manilla is also well known for Split Rock Dam built from 1985-1988. It is also famous worldwide as a paragliding and other air sport center. |
